Wine is the backbone
of our economy. Each year, one can't help but notice
the buds swell, the freshness of the pale green new leaves,
the lush beauty of the summer vineyard, then the fruit swelling
and ripening. The vineyard workers come and harvest the fruit
and the whole valley is rich with the smell of the crush.
The leaves turn their autumn colors and fall to the ground
and the vineyard is asleep again. The wineries, however,
are busy making the fruit of the grapevines into sumptuous
wines.
These industry groups offer more information about wines,
wineries and the industry surrounding it.

Fresh Foods The first Saturday in May is the official opening date for the Saturday Farmer's Market.
Join your neighbors for this weekly celebration of community in support
of
locally grown
food. The Farmer's Market is at North and Vine Streets one block west of the Plaza from
9:00 a.m. to noon from
May 5th through late autumn.
This month, you'll be able to find fresh lettuce, chard
and other greens, plus winter root crops such as beets and carrots.
There should
be fava beans most of the month and the first of the
local summer squash has already started to trickle in. Fresh, sweet
local strawberries are coming into season and, by the end of the
month, we should be starting to see some cherries and apricots. By
the end of May, the breba crop of figs should come in and, with a
bit of luck, we'll see them in the market soon.
Sonoma County produce is featured in most of our restaurants. It's always a good night to eat out in Healdsburg. |
